“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of mankind and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.” ~Mark Twain
According to Urban Dictionary, a Ladycation is, “A vacation with all your girlfriends. No boys allowed. The celebration of being a lady.” It’s all about connecting with the important women in our lives. A Ladycation encourages women to be active, adventurous, to explore, laugh, feel wonder, and appreciate nature. Most of all, Ladycations celebrate and enrich the sisterhood that we share with the strong, amazing women who make up our tribe.
My name is Stephanie Stohre. I’m 44 years old, divorced, the mother of three, lover of the outdoors, and total history nerd, living and dreaming in Ohio. When I’m not working as a medical secretary or parenting my very busy children, I’m either going on an adventure, or planning one. The wanderlust is strong with this one.
I used to see all the blogs written by people who had given up normal life to live as nomads: traveling the globe, one adventure at a time. Having three kids precludes me from living that lifestyle, but having responsibilities doesn’t mean we’re excluded from having adventures. It just means there’s a little more planning involved. I realized there was never going to be a right time to travel, there always seems to be another excuse to put things off. So I re-prioritized.
I’ve always loved reading and writing stories. It runs in the family; my dad’s a writer, his mom was a writer, and my brother and I both inherited the same gene. As fun as it is to come up with an original story, my life is often more interesting than fiction, and always full of lessons. So, I decided to start sharing my experiences via blog, in the hopes of providing entertainment, and maybe sharing insight and inspiration. Or maybe I just like to tell stories, and my friends have heard them all, so I need a new audience. Either way, I hope you find Ladycations to be a good read, with a laugh or two, and I hope you’ll keep coming back to see what new shenanigans my ladies and I are getting into.
